The Road Less Traveled....

We thought we had it all figured out !!! Life has many unexpected twists and turns which we could not even imagine! We were born and raised in the Philippines, living life in the fast lane as non-Christians. Always searching for fulfillment but never in the right places. This time of our lives were ruled with distractions, short-lived successes, and false hopes. In the 1980’s our empty lives were opened to the TRUTH and met with undeserved and unlimited love and grace of our LORD.

As the Philippine economy slowed down in the late 80’s new challenges surfaced on how to raise our young family in such a repressive society. This led us to make the desperate trek to Fairbanks, Alaska with hopes of fulfilling the “American Dream”. As the years rolled on, we were able to use this time to grow and learn varied trades in the construction industry as our Lord blessed us with outstanding personal relationships and business opportunities that helped us get to where we are today.

After retirement, we easily merged into the slow lane of relaxed living. We enjoyed our grand kids, traveled, and took time to rest. Although we were having a ball with a slower pace of life, we were restless. We were at a crossroad and God revealed to us HIS plan to take the road less traveled. The world may define us as crazy or going through a midlife crisis but we find peace and comfort knowing that God is in the driver seat and we are following the path that He has chosen for us.

So here we are, 60+ years young, born and raised in a 3rd world nation, completed higher education in Fresno, CA, spent a couple of decades in the frozen north called Alaska as a general contractor; retired from the professional field a few years ago and now we (the wife and I) are heading out on the road for one-year living in our RV with the goal of visiting and participating in as many active projects that Hard Hats for Christ has on their roster across the nation.

Through the years of being “tentmakers” by supporting missionaries and ministries, we always felt a tugging to be in the middle of the action by serving in a ministry ourselves. We thank the LORD that we are given this opportunity to serve through Hard Hats for Christ in this way. He truly has perfect timing and has used the life experiences and knowledge to place us here and now to serve.

  1. Frank and Carol, we are pleased that our paths have crossed here in Michigan's Thumb. You both are amazing. What a team. From the moment you arrived you began immediately to "encourage, love, and build up (literally) others in the name of Christ.". Can't wait to see where God leads you next and will look forward to your reports from the road! Mike and Linda Slocum
